Ratna Dyer, Designer Maker has been the inspiration and leading light in the development of R. U. Precious' totally unique and artistic clothing and bringing it to the New Zealand fashion scene.
Ratna loves dancing to tunes filled with layers of sound. Filtering through the dance floor like sound waves, spiraling in waves of colour like a nicely painted sculpture, free-flowing like the designs that come through her onto fabric, and then seeing them being enjoyed and soaked up by the many who wear her garments.
Ratna is constantly grateful to make a living from her creative passion.
“There is no way of going back to a 'normal job' after the fulfillment of expression through art, as a means of supporting oneself.
Self employment is not always a box of fluffy ducks though! It takes constant motivation and drive, discipline and vision.
Like anything, there are pros and cons, but when things are stressful I always remember the words a friend once said to me… “just remember why you started doing this in the first place“… and the perspective quickly comes back."
Ratna believes we are blessed in life, and especially in Aotearoa, to make choices to follow our passion.
"It’s all about believing in yourself and having a point to start from. A starting point is like a pinhole of light, in the night sky of your dreams.
All you have to do is pull it closer, look through, and soon you’ve stepped through the hole (somewhat tentatively perhaps) and your world opens out before you.
The most challenging thing is to remain always grateful for where you are at in the present, rather than eternally aspiring to the ever-moving visions and goals.
The trick is to constantly balance both."
Ratna wants for the world to find balance, in appreciation of goodness and peaceful acceptance.
She feels heartened to be surrounded by friends aspiring to their highest good, in compassion and love of one another.
She also wants for all those that buy her work, to get great pleasure out of wearing it!
